SQUARE Distributed Storage of Attachment Module (DSAM)
When using Lotus Domino / Lotus Notes as the platform of document management solution, you certainly face a problem that performance degrades (e.g. slow speed in searching or retrieving documents) with increment of database size.
It is found that most of the size contributions to document database are attachments in documents. Basically in most document management solution, attachments and document content itself are stored together. When more and more documents with attachments are filed, the database size will increase quickly and hurt performance badly.
SQUARE, as a Lotus Domino / Lotus Notes document management solution, however, does not have such issue. It is because there is Distributed Storage of Attachment Module (DSAM), an intelligence way in managing document contents and attachments in separated Lotus Domino databases.
In DSAM, there is automatic cabinet database size control. It can automatically separate the storage of content and attachment in different Lotus Domino databases, at the same time; keep each database size under the healthy size limit so that the performance in accessing will not be decreased by Lotus Domino database size limit. For example, by comparing the profile searching speed in a single 8GB SQUARE cabinet database with that in the same cabinet database after applying DSAM, the speed can have 5-times of improvement.
From end-user’s point of view, using SQUARE with DSAM is just the same as using normal SQUARE. It is because end-users are only needed to access the master cabinet database, attachment databases are transparent to them. Any document management tasks are done just the same as one single cabinet database; and enjoying long lasting high performance document management solution.
